“In carving stone and wood there is a connection of material to the landscape from which they come, the topography and elements become a source toward my independent work.”

The hand to eye coordination within the making is meditative and at times lucid, beautifully free from the conscious thought of day-to-day concerns, which brings to mind the value of such moments.

Commissions are collaborative, responding to the site specific nature and the requirements of the client
to define a harmony within the design and to finished piece.

My travels have led to a keen interest in paleography and the composition of letter forms which has brought about a number of commissions in foreign languages.

I studied at the City & Guilds of London Art School in the early 1980’s and became an apprentice to Richard Kindersley FRBS from 1983 to 1985, and have subsequently worked for Richard on a number of projects in different media over the years.

I also teach part time at the City & Guilds of London Art School in the carving departments, whilst continuing with my own career. I am an elected member to Letter Exchange.
